Prickles and Pear Cactus Errata
As of September 25, 2019, the Prickles and Pear Cacti pattern is missing some information needed to complete the Body and Pear’s dress. See below for the full instructions.
Body
The written instructions for placing and slipping the 2nd and 4th markers on increase rounds of the body are incorrect. The chart is correct because it omits the markers. Changes to the specific Rounds are indicated in bold.
Round 5 (increase round): K1, place
marker, M1, p1, k1; repeat from 7 more
times, M1, place marker, p1 twice—40
sts. Note: There should now be five
markers on the needle(s), including the
beginning of round marker.
Round 10 (increase round): P1, slip
marker, M1, * k1, p1; repeat from * to next
marker, M1, slip marker, k1 twice—44 sts.
Round 20 (increase round): K1, slip
marker, M1, p1, k1; repeat from to next
marker, M1, slip marker, p1 twice—52 sts.
Round 25 shouldn’t be affected. Just make sure that the marker you place in this round is after stitch 28 (halfway around the body).
Dress
The skirt instructions are missing from the Red Heart PDF. Here are the full instructions for constructing the dress.
The Dress is made from 4 pieces that are sewn together at the end: 2 sleeves, a bodice, and a skirt.
Sleeves
Make 2.
Using US size 2/2.75 mm needles, cast on 14 stitches in pink. Distribute across needles as you prefer and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist. Note or mark start of round.
Round 1: K.
Round 2: K3, kfb, k6, kfb, k3. (16 stitches)
Rounds 3-4: K.
Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Bodice
The bodice is worked flat.
Using US size 2/2.75 mm needles, cast on 45 stitches in pink.
Rows 1-5: Starting with a Purl (wrong side) row, work 5 rows in stockinette stitch.
Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Skirt
Using US size 2/2.75 mm needles, cast on 90 stitches in pink. Distribute across needles as you prefer and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist. Note or mark start of round.
Rounds 1-8 (right side): K.
Bind off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
FINISHING THE DRESS:
Fold the Bodice in half along the long side. Starting at the cast on edge, mattress stitch 3 rows of the short side together. Center one sleeve in the remaining seam. The bind off edge of the sleeve should be pointed out, away from the Bodice, and the cast on edge of the sleeve should line up with the open seam on the bodice. Sew the bottom third of the sleeve into the side seam, along the cast on edge. With the front facing you, this is the right side of the dress, where the lower arm will go.
The fold along the bottom is the left side of the dress, where the higher arm will go. Position the other sleeve on top of this fold. The cast on edge of the sleeve will be on the bind off edge of the bodice. The sleeve should be pointing out, away from the bodice. Sew the bottom 4 stitches of the cast on edge of the sleeve to the top of the bodice.
Finally, you will mattress stitch the Skirt to the bodice. Loosely baste around the bind off edge of the skirt. Pull on this thread to gather the ruffles. Pin the skirt in place around the bodice. Mattress stitch the skirt and bodice together.
Press the dress flat with an iron. Weave in any loose ends.
