The first two things you’re bound to notice about a walrus are its size and its tusks. Walruses are native to the arctic and have a thick layer of blubber under their skin that keeps them nice and cozy on their long underwater dives and also protects them from predators. Those impressive tusks are found on both males and females (like our lovely Frances) and are multi-purpose tools. Walruses use them as weapons to defend against predators, as grappling hooks to haul themselves onto the ice, and even as picks to break up chunks of ice over the water.
Like all of her mustachioed companions, Frances loves shellfish, but she also has a penchant for cookies. She’d love to join you on a visit to the ocean or the local bake shop!
